Hyderabad: Flight disruptions continued for a seventh straight day as Indigo cancelled 77 flights at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Tuesday, affecting hundreds of passengers. Earlier reports had mentioned 58 cancellations for the day, but airport officials later confirmed a higher number, including 38 arrivals and 39 departures.
The cancellations are part of a wider problem affecting Indigo flights across the country. In total, more than 240 flights have been cancelled nationwide over the past two days. The airline has blamed the disruptions on a combination of factors, including new duty and rest rules for pilots and staff shortages.
Passengers at Hyderabad airport said they were informed of cancellations at the last minute, leading to confusion, long queues and frustration. Many travellers also complained of delays in receiving refunds or alternative bookings, especially those who booked through travel agencies or online platforms.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued a notice to the airline and asked for a detailed explanation. Officials from the aviation ministry have also started inspections at airports to assess the impact and review whether the airline followed guidelines.
Indigo has stated that it is working to restore normal operations and provide assistance to affected passengers. However, travel experts say the disruptions may continue for a few more days until staffing issues and scheduling challenges are resolved.
Meanwhile, passengers flying Indigo in the coming days have been advised to check their flight status in advance to avoid inconvenience.
The situation has raised concerns over how sudden schedule changes and operational lapses can affect the country’s aviation network, especially since Indigo handles a large share of domestic air travel in India.
