New Delhi: Delhi continued to struggle with dense smog on Friday as air quality remained at very poor to hazardous levels across many parts of the national capital. Low visibility caused by the thick layer of pollution affected daily life, road traffic, and air travel, prompting fresh advisories for residents and passengers.
According to official monitoring data, pollution levels stayed dangerously high, with fine particulate matter far exceeding safe limits. Calm winds and cold winter conditions have trapped pollutants close to the ground, worsening the smog situation and reducing visibility during early morning and late evening hours.
Authorities at Indira Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory asking passengers to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules. Airport officials said flight operations are continuing, but low visibility procedures have been put in place as a precaution. Some flights may face delays due to weather conditions, especially during early hours.
Airlines have advised travelers to check flight status before leaving for the airport to avoid inconvenience. While there were no reports of large scale cancellations at the time of the advisory, officials said the situation is being closely monitored.
Health experts have urged residents to limit outdoor activities, particularly children, elderly people, and those with breathing problems. People have been advised to wear protective masks when stepping outside and to keep doors and windows closed as much as possible.
The current smog episode is part of Delhi’s recurring winter pollution pattern, which usually intensifies in December due to weather conditions and increased emissions. Authorities are expected to continue issuing advisories as long as air quality remains poor.
