New Delhi: The Election Commission will publish the draft voter list today as part of the Special Intensive Revision in five states and Union Territories. The draft lists will be released for West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry and Lakshadweep.
According to indications, around 5.8 million voters have been excluded from the draft list in West Bengal. Reports say that 5,820,897 names, which is about 7.6 percent of the total electorate in the state, have been removed. More than 3.13 million people may have to appear for hearings to clarify their voter status.
The Election Commission has identified several discrepancies in West Bengal’s voter list. These include people who are no longer residing at the given address, deceased voters and duplicate entries. Around 1.37 million names fall under these categories.
In Goa, about 8.5 percent of voters are reported to have been removed from the draft list, while Rajasthan has seen removals of nearly eight percent.
Lakshadweep has recorded the lowest number of deletions, with only about 2.5 percent of names removed.
Meanwhile, the Special Intensive Revision process has been postponed in Kerala. The revision began in the state on December 4 and continued until December 11. The Election Commission had earlier announced that the draft voter list would be published on December 16.
Once the draft list is released, voters will be able to raise objections or submit applications until January 17, 2026. After completing the hearings and verification process, the final voter list is expected to be published in February.
