Kannur: A firecracker explosion in Pinarayi Venduttai has drawn attention to the risks associated with traditional festive celebrations, according to CPM leader EP Jayarajan. Speaking about the incident, Jayarajan clarified that the firecracker was intended for Christmas and New Year festivities, and cautioned against misinterpreting the event as a violent act.
Explaining the circumstances, Jayarajan noted that firecrackers and âOla crackersâ are often prepared in rural areas during the festive season, despite being prohibited under safety regulations. âThese are made in villages as part of New Year celebrations. Many involve strings, and if the knot of such a firecracker is tied too tightly, an explosion can occur. Inexperienced handling increases the risk of accidents,â he said.
The recent mishap in Pinarayi is a reflection of such accidental explosions, not an act of violence or terror. Jayarajan emphasized the importance of maintaining communal harmony and ensuring that festive joy is not overshadowed by panic or misinterpretation. He further highlighted that the CPM is committed to preserving peace in Kannur, and efforts are ongoing to reinforce a secure and calm environment during celebrations.
The leaderâs statement serves as a reminder of the need for caution while handling homemade firecrackers, and encourages communities to celebrate responsibly while respecting safety norms.
