Kremlin says peace prospects unchanged despite revised proposals

Moscow : Russia said on Sunday that recent changes made by European countries and Ukraine to a United States peace proposal have not improved the chances of ending the war in Ukraine.

A senior aide to the Kremlin said Moscow does not see any meaningful progress in the revised ideas and believes they fail to address what Russia considers the core issues of the conflict. The remarks underline the deep divisions that continue to block a breakthrough, even as diplomatic contacts intensify.

According to the Kremlin, discussions with the United States are still ongoing and recent meetings were described as constructive. However, Russian officials insist that amendments suggested by European partners and Ukraine do not move the process closer to a lasting settlement.

The comments come amid renewed efforts by Washington to keep talks alive. Ukrainian leaders have said the United States proposed a broader negotiation format that could include Russia, Ukraine and other international partners. Kyiv has welcomed continued engagement but maintains that any peace plan must respect its territorial integrity and provide strong security guarantees.

Western officials say the revised proposals were aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position and ensuring long term stability. Russia, however, remains firm that its own demands must be met before any agreement can be reached.

Meanwhile, fighting continues along several parts of the front line, highlighting the gap between diplomatic discussions and realities on the ground. Analysts say the latest statements from Moscow suggest that while dialogue has not stopped, expectations of a near term peace deal remain low.

The war, now stretching into another year, continues to strain relations between Russia and the West, with no clear sign yet that negotiations will lead to an end to the conflict.
