Jammu: A Pakistani drone crossed the Line of Control into Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir and dropped suspected explosives and weapons, triggering a major security alert and search operation in the border areas.
According to security sources, the drone entered the Indian side of the LoC in the Poonch sector during the evening hours. It reportedly hovered briefly before dropping several packets and then returned across the border. The dropped material is believed to include explosives, ammunition and possibly narcotics.
Indian Army personnel and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched immediate search operations in the area. Security forces cordoned off nearby villages, forest zones and access routes to locate and safely recover the dropped items. Bomb disposal squads were also deployed as a precautionary measure.
Officials said strict inspections and surveillance have been intensified across sensitive border areas following the incident. Additional checkpoints have been set up, and night patrols have been strengthened to prevent any follow up attempts at infiltration or sabotage.
This incident comes at a time of heightened security across Jammu and Kashmir due to recent intelligence inputs and ongoing concerns over the use of drones to transport arms and explosives from across the border. In recent years, drones have increasingly been used to bypass traditional border defenses, posing a serious challenge to security forces.
So far, no casualties have been reported. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact origin of the drone and the intended use of the dropped materials. Authorities have urged local residents to remain alert and report any suspicious objects or movements to security personnel immediately.
