Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said the United States wants Ukraine and Russia to reach an agreement to end the war by June, even as fighting on the ground shows no sign of slowing.
Speaking to reporters, Zelenskyy said Washington has communicated a clear timeline, urging both sides to move toward a settlement within the next few months. Ukraine, he said, is ready to take part in new talks proposed by the United States, including a possible meeting on American soil.
The comments come as diplomatic efforts intensify after earlier negotiations failed to make progress. Previous rounds of talks held in the Middle East did not lead to a breakthrough, mainly because Kyiv and Moscow remain deeply divided over territorial control and security guarantees.
While discussions about peace continue, the war has grown more intense in recent days. Russia has launched large scale attacks on Ukraineās energy infrastructure, damaging power facilities and forcing emergency electricity cuts in several regions. Ukrainian officials say these strikes are aimed at weakening the countryās ability to function during the winter period.
Zelenskyy has stressed that any peace deal must include firm security guarantees for Ukraine and respect its territorial integrity. He has also warned that setting deadlines alone will not be enough if Russia continues military pressure while talks are underway.
On the Russian side, there has been no public commitment to the June timeline. Moscow has maintained its long standing demands, which Ukraine has repeatedly rejected.
As the deadline approaches, analysts say the coming weeks will be crucial. Diplomatic pressure is rising, but continued fighting on the battlefield highlights how difficult it may be to turn talks into a lasting peace.
