Ukhrul: Fresh violence has once again disrupted normal life in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, forcing the authorities to impose a strict curfew and suspend internet services for five days to prevent the situation from worsening.
According to official sources, tension escalated after armed clashes were reported in parts of the district, including areas near Litan Sareikhong village. Several houses were reportedly set on fire, and gunshots were heard, creating fear among residents. Some families fled their homes and moved to safer locations amid the unrest.
In response, the district administration enforced a round the clock curfew across Ukhrul to control movement and maintain law and order. Internet and mobile data services were also suspended for five days, as officials said the step was necessary to stop the spread of rumours and misinformation through social media.
Security forces have been deployed in large numbers, with intensified patrolling and checkpoints set up in sensitive areas. Search operations are also being carried out to prevent further violence and to reassure the local population.
Officials said the latest unrest appears to be linked to long standing ethnic tensions in the region, which have triggered repeated episodes of violence in different parts of Manipur over the past few years.
Authorities have appealed to residents to remain calm, follow curfew restrictions, and cooperate with security forces as efforts continue to restore peace and normalcy in the district.
