Jerusalem: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Israel’s parliament on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian prime minister to speak in the Knesset and marking a new step in the growing partnership between the two countries.
In his speech, Modi stressed that India and Israel share democratic values and a commitment to peace and stability. He strongly condemned terrorism and called for global cooperation to counter extremist threats. He also expressed solidarity with Israel and emphasized the importance of dialogue and stability in the Middle East.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally welcomed Modi on arrival and described him as a great friend of Israel. The visit highlighted the warm personal rapport between the two leaders and the steady expansion of bilateral relations.
During the visit, Modi was awarded the Speaker of the Knesset Medal, the highest parliamentary honour in Israel. The recognition acknowledged his role in strengthening strategic cooperation and deepening ties between the two nations.
Defence and security cooperation formed a key part of the discussions. Talks focused on strengthening collaboration in advanced defence technologies, including drones, missile systems, and emerging air defence solutions. The leaders also explored cooperation in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and innovation.
Economic cooperation was another major focus. India is among Israel’s leading trading partners in Asia, and both sides expressed interest in expanding partnerships in technology, agriculture, water management, and start up innovation.
The visit comes at a time of rising tensions in the Middle East. India continues to maintain a balanced diplomatic approach while strengthening strategic cooperation with Israel and supporting peace and stability in the region.
During his stay, Modi is also scheduled to meet President Isaac Herzog, visit the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, and participate in innovation and diplomatic engagements in Jerusalem.
The visit reflects the growing depth of India Israel relations and signals a shared commitment to security cooperation, technological progress, and regional peace.
