Modi concludes Israel visit with major agreements and digital payments link

Tel Aviv: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned home after a two day visit to Israel that strengthened ties between the two countries and produced a wide range of cooperation agreements.

During the visit, India and Israel finalized 27 cooperation outcomes covering technology, innovation, agriculture, water management, education, culture, and scientific research. The agreements reflect growing collaboration across economic, technological, and cultural sectors.

One of the most significant outcomes was the decision to introduce India’s Unified Payments Interface in Israel. Once implemented, Indian tourists, workers, and businesses will be able to make digital payments using UPI, making transactions easier and strengthening financial technology cooperation between the two nations.

The two countries also elevated their relationship to a special strategic partnership, signaling a deeper level of trust and long term cooperation. Leaders from both sides emphasized shared democratic values and a commitment to innovation driven growth.

Defence and security cooperation featured prominently in the talks. India and Israel agreed to expand joint development and production initiatives and deepen technology sharing in defence systems. Israel remains one of India’s key defence partners.

Economic cooperation also gained momentum, with both sides expressing commitment to accelerate negotiations toward a free trade agreement aimed at boosting trade and investment. New initiatives were launched to support innovation partnerships, startups, and industrial cooperation.

The visit also opened new pathways for employment opportunities for Indian workers in sectors such as manufacturing, commerce, and hospitality through labour mobility arrangements.

Technology and future oriented cooperation formed another major pillar of the discussions. Both countries agreed to collaborate in renewable energy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, space research, and academic exchange.

During his meetings, Modi also stressed the importance of peace and dialogue in the Middle East and reaffirmed India’s support for stability in the region.

The visit is seen as a significant step in expanding cooperation between India and Israel, particularly in digital finance, defence technology, innovation, and trade. Analysts say the outcomes will deepen economic ties while strengthening strategic collaboration in an increasingly complex global landscape.
