Mananthavady: The KCYM Mananthavady diocesan committee has voiced strong concern over rising military tensions involving Israel, the United States and Iran, warning that the world is moving toward a major disaster and that peace cannot be built through weapons.
In a statement, diocesan president Nikhil Choodiyankal said the global situation resembles standing on top of a volcano, with the world on the brink of a destructive war. He expressed deep anxiety over escalating hostilities and their possible consequences.
The committee said direct attacks between Israel and Iran and the involvement of US forces have created serious international security concerns. It warned that power struggles among global forces driven by political interests often result in the loss of innocent civilian lives. KCYM noted that such conflicts benefit only those who profit from arms sales and those who desire war.
The group also highlighted that a widening conflict in West Asia could severely affect the Gulf region, putting the lives and safety of millions of expatriate workers at risk. Disruptions to global fuel supply and rising energy prices could make life difficult for ordinary people in many countries, including India.
In this situation, KCYM urged the United Nations and world leaders to intervene urgently to stop the war and restore peace.
Diocesan vice president Vindhya Padinjareel, general secretary Robin Biju Vadakkeekara, secretaries Divya Pattasheriyil and Christy Karuvallithara, treasurer Naveen Pulakkudiyil, coordinator Britto Vazhiyil, director Fr Santo Ambalathara and animator Sr Rose Tom also spoke.
