London: The United Kingdom has told Bahrain that its fighter jets stationed in the Middle East are ready to provide additional defensive protection if the Gulf country faces attacks linked to the ongoing tensions with Iran.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer conveyed this message during a conversation with Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa as concerns grow about the spread of the regional conflict. The UK government said its aircraft in the region could help defend Bahrain from possible missile or drone attacks.
Britain has already strengthened its military presence in the Middle East in response to the rising security threats. Four Royal Air Force Typhoon fighter jets have been deployed to Qatar to support defensive missions and to protect allies in the Gulf.
In addition to the fighter jets, the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Dragon has been deployed in the region along with helicopters designed to counter drone threats. British officials said these forces are meant to protect UK personnel, support regional partners and help respond quickly if the security situation worsens.
The move comes as tensions between Iran and its opponents continue to rise following recent military strikes and retaliatory attacks across the Middle East. Several countries in the region have increased security measures amid fears that the conflict could spread further.
Bahrain hosts the United States Navy’s Fifth Fleet and is considered a key strategic partner for Western countries in the Gulf. Because of its strategic location, the country is seen as a possible target if the regional conflict intensifies.
The British government said its role in the region is defensive and aimed at maintaining stability while supporting allies facing security threats. British officials also said they are closely monitoring developments and remain ready to take further steps if needed.
