Beijing: Chinese technology giant Alibaba has launched a new artificial intelligence platform designed to help businesses automate everyday office tasks, marking a major step in the growing global race to develop smarter workplace tools.
The platform, named Wukong, introduces a system of coordinated AI agents that can work together to complete complex tasks. Unlike traditional chatbots that mainly respond to questions, this new system is built to take action and carry out multi step assignments on its own.
According to the company, the platform can handle a wide range of functions such as editing documents, updating spreadsheets, conducting research and even transcribing meetings. It works through a single interface that manages multiple AI agents at the same time, making it easier for companies to streamline operations.
Alibaba said the tool will be available as a desktop application and will also be integrated into DingTalk, its workplace communication platform used by millions of people. The company is also planning to connect the system with widely used business tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams and WeChat, aiming to expand its reach beyond China.
The launch comes at a time when competition in artificial intelligence is intensifying, especially in China. Major technology firms including ByteDance and Tencent are also investing heavily in similar AI agent systems that can perform tasks independently.
Experts say this new generation of AI represents a shift from tools that simply assist users to systems that can act like digital employees. Businesses are expected to benefit from faster workflows and reduced manual work, although concerns remain about data security and privacy.
Chinese authorities have already expressed caution about the rapid spread of such technologies, warning about potential risks linked to data access and system control.
Alibaba’s latest move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its position in the fast growing AI market. Industry estimates suggest that the global market for enterprise AI agents could expand significantly in the coming years, making it one of the most competitive areas in the technology sector.
With the launch of Wukong, Alibaba is positioning itself at the forefront of this shift, as companies worldwide look for smarter ways to manage work in an increasingly digital environment.
