No lockdown in India as government dismisses rumours

New Delhi: The central government of India has clarified that there is no plan to impose a nationwide lockdown, dismissing widespread rumours as false and misleading.

The statement came after social media posts created confusion among the public, with claims suggesting that restrictions similar to the COVID period could be introduced again. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said clearly that no such proposal is under consideration and urged people not to believe or share unverified information.

Officials explained that the rumours gained attention due to global tensions, especially in West Asia, which raised concerns about fuel supply and economic stability. However, the government assured that the situation remains stable and under control.

Authorities also confirmed that there is no shortage of essential supplies, including petrol, diesel and cooking gas. Adequate stocks are available across the country, and supply chains are functioning normally.

Despite these assurances, panic buying was reported in some areas, with long queues seen at fuel stations. State authorities intervened quickly and reassured people that there was no need to rush or stock up.

The government emphasised that discussions on preparedness should not be misunderstood as signs of an impending lockdown. Officials said such preparations are routine measures to handle any global uncertainties.

The public has been advised to stay calm and rely only on official information. The government warned that spreading false news can create unnecessary fear and disrupt normal life.
