Ships take new route to cross Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing tensions

Tehran: An Indian vessel along with three other ships has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz using an alternative shipping route, as tensions continue to disrupt normal maritime traffic in the region.

According to recent reports, the ships avoided the usual international shipping lane and instead moved through safer waters near Oman. This route passes close to the Musandam Peninsula and stays largely within Omani territorial waters, reducing exposure to high risk zones.

The move comes at a time when the strategic waterway remains under strain due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran and its regional tensions. The strait is one of the most important oil transit routes in the world, carrying a large share of global energy supplies.

Shipping activity in the area has dropped sharply in recent weeks. Where more than a hundred vessels used to pass daily, only a small number of ships are now making the journey. Many shipping companies are taking extra precautions, including rerouting vessels and limiting tracking visibility to avoid threats.

India has been closely monitoring the situation as it depends heavily on energy imports through this route. Several Indian flagged vessels have managed to cross safely in recent days, ensuring continued supply of fuel and gas to the country.

Experts say the use of alternative routes shows how the global shipping industry is adapting to the crisis. However, they also warn that these measures are temporary and that full normal operations in the Strait of Hormuz have not yet resumed.

The situation remains uncertain, and the safety of maritime movement continues to depend on how tensions in the region develop in the coming days.
