India asks its citizens to leave Iran as situation remains uncertain

New Delhi: The Government of India has urged all its citizens in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible, citing an uncertain and changing security situation.

In a fresh advisory, the Indian Embassy in Tehran asked nationals to exit the country quickly and follow official instructions. Authorities warned citizens not to travel to border areas or attempt to leave on their own without consulting the embassy, stressing that only safe and approved routes should be used.

The advisory comes even as a temporary ceasefire between United States and Iran is in place. Officials said the ceasefire does not guarantee safety, and the situation on the ground remains unpredictable.

This marks a clear change in India’s guidance. Just a day earlier, citizens had been advised to stay indoors and avoid movement. The latest message asking people to leave immediately shows growing concern over possible risks.

Thousands of Indian nationals are currently in Iran, including students and workers. The government is closely monitoring developments and coordinating efforts to help those who wish to return safely.

India is among several countries that have issued travel advisories as tensions continue in the region. Officials say the move is a precaution to ensure the safety of citizens in case the situation worsens further.
