Children in Equatorial Guinea eagerly await Pope Leo XIV visit

Malabo: Children in Equatorial Guinea are preparing with joy and excitement for the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV, as the country gets ready to welcome him later this month.

In the capital Malabo, around 200 children recently took part in a special faith camp known as Campamento Infantil 2026. The program was organised by the Salesian Sisters and focused on prayer, learning, and community activities to help children understand the importance of the Pope’s visit.

The children expressed happiness and deep enthusiasm as they prepared spiritually for the occasion. Many described the experience as meaningful and said they felt proud to be part of such an important moment for their country and the Church.

The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Equatorial Guinea is part of a wider journey across Africa from April 13 to April 23. The Pope is also visiting Algeria, Cameroon, and Angola, highlighting the growing importance of the African continent in the life of the Catholic Church.

Equatorial Guinea, where a large majority of the population is Catholic, is expected to witness strong participation from local communities. Church leaders in the country have described the visit as a time of grace and renewal.

Across the country, preparations are ongoing, with special attention given to involving children and young people. Camps and parish activities are helping them learn about faith, unity, and the role of the Pope, making them active participants in the celebrations.

The excitement seen among children reflects a vibrant and growing Church in Africa, where young people continue to play an important role in shaping its future.
