Iran executes man accused of spying for Israel during protest unrest

Tehran: Iran has announced the execution of a man it accused of working for Israel and taking part in acts of sabotage during recent protests, state linked media reported.

According to the semi official Tasnim news agency, the man was convicted of cooperating with Israel’s intelligence service, known as Mossad. Authorities said he had been involved in violent activities linked to unrest, including damaging property, setting fires, and creating fear among the public in the city of Isfahan.

Iran’s judiciary said the case went through the legal process and that the death sentence was confirmed by the country’s Supreme Court before it was carried out. Officials described the execution as part of efforts to deal with security threats and foreign backed interference.

The incident comes as Iran continues to face protests driven by economic hardship and public dissatisfaction. The government has repeatedly claimed that outside forces, especially Israel, are trying to use the unrest to destabilise the country.

In recent days, Iranian authorities have reported uncovering alleged spy networks and detaining several people accused of links to foreign intelligence agencies. Some of those cases have also led to executions, according to state media.

Human rights groups have raised concerns about the growing number of executions, saying they fear the measures are being used to silence dissent. Iranian officials, however, insist that such actions are necessary to maintain order and protect national security.

The situation is unfolding at a time of rising tensions in the region, with strained relations between Iran and Israel adding to concerns over stability.
