Chandy Oommen raises serious concerns over EVMS and voter list issues in Puthuppally election

Kottayam: Chandy Oommen has expressed strong concern over the use of electronic voting machines in the Puthuppally constituency, questioning the transparency and reliability of the election process.

The Congress leader and MLA said that many voters reported doubts about how the machines functioned during polling. He stressed that such concerns from the public must be taken seriously to maintain trust in the democratic system.

He also highlighted problems related to the voter list. According to him, several people who came to vote could not find their names on the electoral roll, which stopped them from casting their vote. He described this as a serious issue that affects the basic right of citizens to participate in elections.

Oommen criticised the way the voter list revision was carried out, saying that many eligible voters were left out. He noted that he had earlier raised objections and even approached the court, but the concerns were not addressed.

The election in Puthuppally has drawn wide attention as it is the first major contest in the constituency following the death of former chief minister Oommen Chandy.

Chandy Oommen called for greater transparency in both the voting process and the preparation of voter lists, stating that public confidence in elections must be protected.
