Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Higher Secondary Examination results for 2026 were announced on Monday, bringing relief and happiness to lakhs of students and their families across the state. The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education said that 77.97 percent of students who appeared for the Plus Two examinations qualified for higher studies this year. A total of 2,90,398 students successfully cleared the examinations and became eligible for admission to colleges and universities.
The results were officially declared by Kerala General Education Minister N Shamsudheen at a press conference held in Thiruvananthapuram. The overall success rate showed a small improvement compared to last year when the pass percentage stood at 77.81 percent. Education officials described the performance as encouraging and said students had performed steadily despite increasing academic pressure and competition.
More than 4.25 lakh students appeared for the examinations which were conducted in March across thousands of centres in Kerala and outside the state. Soon after the announcement, students rushed to official websites and mobile applications to check their scores. Many schools also arranged special gatherings where teachers, students and parents celebrated the results together.
Girls once again performed better than boys in the examinations. According to official data, the pass percentage among girls was close to 85 percent while boys recorded around 68 percent. Education experts said this trend has been visible in Kerala for several years and reflects the strong academic consistency shown by female students.
The Science stream recorded the highest pass percentage among all streams. Commerce followed closely while Humanities students also showed a steady performance. Teachers said many students achieved excellent marks despite the challenging syllabus and competitive environment.
One of the major highlights this year was the large number of students who secured full A Plus grades in all subjects. More than 30,500 students achieved this distinction, reflecting the high academic standards maintained in Kerala schools. Several districts reported impressive performances, with many schools celebrating hundred percent success rates.
Education department officials also announced details regarding revaluation and supplementary examinations. Students who are not satisfied with their marks can apply for revaluation and scrutiny within the prescribed time period. Those who failed in one or more subjects will get another opportunity through the Save A Year examinations scheduled to begin at the end of June. Officials said this system helps students continue their studies without losing an academic year.
Students were advised that the online mark sheets available on official websites are provisional documents. Original certificates and detailed mark lists will later be distributed through schools. Results are available through government portals as well as DigiLocker services.
The Plus Two examination is considered one of the most important academic stages in Kerala as it decides admission opportunities for higher education courses in India and abroad. Following the announcement of results, many students have already started preparing applications for professional and degree programmes in engineering, medicine, commerce, humanities and other fields.
The state government congratulated all successful students and encouraged those who could not clear the examinations not to lose confidence. Education officials said students should make use of the supplementary examination opportunity and continue working towards their academic goals.
Teachers and parents across the state also expressed happiness over the improved results and praised students for their hard work and determination throughout the academic year.
