Bangkok: A devastating fire at a popular entertainment venue in Bangkok has claimed the lives of at least 27 people and left 63 others injured, making it one of Thailand's worst nightlife disasters in recent years. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause of the blaze, with early evidence pointing to a possible electrical fault, while safety inspections are being expanded across entertainment venues in the capital.
The fire broke out late on Sunday night at Rong Beer Na Lat Phrao, a well known pub and live music venue in Bangkok's Chatuchak district. The building was crowded with customers enjoying live performances when smoke was first spotted near an electrical circuit breaker close to the stage. Witnesses said the lights suddenly went out before a loud explosion was heard, throwing the venue into darkness and causing panic among those inside.
Within minutes, thick black smoke spread through the building, making it difficult for people to find their way to the exits. Survivors described scenes of confusion as customers rushed toward the doors while others became trapped in the smoke filled building. Several people attempted to escape through the rear of the venue, but many were unable to make it out in time.

The country has experienced several deadly nightclub fires over the past two decades, including the Santika Club fire in Bangkok in 2009, which killed 67 people, and the Mountain B nightclub fire in Chonburi in 2022, where 20 people lost their lives. Both incidents exposed serious shortcomings in emergency exits, building safety and enforcement of regulations.
The latest tragedy is expected to increase pressure on authorities to strengthen inspections of entertainment venues and ensure that fire safety rules are strictly followed.
