“Media are the torch bearers of truth in this world” said Dr. James Anaparambil, Bishop of Alappuzha Diocese. The Bishop pinpointed the relevance and importance of Media in his inaugural speech at the webinar ‘The Great Synod 2023’.

The webinar was organized by Global Media Cell with the intention of educating the masses on the importance of the great Synod which marks a new era in the Universal Church, a step towards ushering in the Third Millennium. The Holy Father wishes to hear from the Faithful all around the world as a pre preparation to the Universal Synod of Bishops to be held in 2023. This webinar is an initiative by the Media aimed at enlightening the masses on the importance of the Synod.

Dr. Anaparambil termed the Media as ‘the liberating voice of the masses'. However, unfortunately we witness the same media being misled by some influential groups. 'Just as how the Media is able to spread the truth so is it able to propagate the untruths too'.

Listening is the onset of Wisdom. We are all called to be listeners in this era. The Media is no different when it comes to this ‘listening’. They publish what they ‘listen’ to. Media can convey matters that at times is missed out by the leaders or those in authority. They are also able to provide or suggest solutions to many issues – Bishop Anaparambil pointed out.

The Bishop concluded his inaugural speech at the conference by calling on the Media to work towards attaining peace by proclaiming the Gospel, bringing the world under one roof, and building a society that is able to call 'God as our Father with the Freedom of a child'.

Fr. Johnny Lonis Mazhuvancheri, Apostolic vicar of Avona offered prayers at the beginning of the webinar. The event was graced with the presence and messages from Bishop Joy Alappat and Bishop Joseph Pamplany.

The spiritual YouTube Channel 'Karthan talkies' became a part of Global Media Cell during the event.
