DEWA's MENA Solar Conference 2023: A Global Gathering of Solar Energy Innovations and Research

Dubai - Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received an overwhelming response from experts and researchers worldwide, with 95 global universities and research centers from 36 countries submitting their contributions to participate in the first Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Solar Conference 2023. This groundbreaking event, focused on solar energy, will be held from 15th to 18th November 2023 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the crucial support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in positioning DEWA as a significant contributor to clean and renewable energy development worldwide. The MENA Solar Conference 2023 will serve as an exceptional platform for presenting the latest research, scientific discoveries, and innovative solutions in solar energy. Experts, researchers, investors, and international keynote speakers will convene to exchange knowledge, insights, and breakthrough ideas.

With its timing just ahead of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) hosted in Dubai in November, the MENA Solar Conference 2023 is expected to witness a massive turnout. The event will also coincide with the 25th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS) 2023, organized by DEWA from 15th to 17th November at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This marks the region's largest exhibition in the energy, water, green development, sustainability, and related sectors.

DEWA's commitment to research and development in sustainability and renewable energy is evident in its emphasis on PV solar power, CSP, hydroelectric power, green hydrogen, and more. This aligns with the ambitious Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to achieve 100% of Dubai's total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, highlighted the diverse range of research papers to be presented at the MENA Solar Conference. Topics include unconventional and future technologies, silicon photovoltaic materials, Perovskite and organic materials and solar cells, PV module and system reliability in the MENA region, solar resources for PV and forecasting, power electronics, and grid integration – all playing vital roles in accelerating the transformation towards green energy. The conference promises to be an essential milestone in advancing solar energy utilization in the region and beyond.
