Never encountered a player like Carlos in two decades, tells Novak Djokovic

LONDON- Novak Djokovic, a seasoned tennis player with an illustrious career spanning over two decades, admitted that he had never encountered a player quite like Carlos Alcaraz.

In a captivating Wimbledon final, the 18-year-old Spanish player dethroned the 36-year-old Djokovic on Centre Court. Djokovic described Alcaraz's game-style as a unique combination of himself, Rafa Nadal, and Roger Federer.

Despite his efforts, Djokovic was unable to overcome Alcaraz's exceptional skills, ending his quest for an eighth Wimbledon title and a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam victory, held by Margaret Court.

With his victory at Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz not only claimed his first title at the prestigious tournament but also solidified his position as the world number one. This triumph, along with his previous win at the 2022 U.S. Open against Casper Ruud, erased any doubts about his remarkable talent. Alcaraz also avenged his loss to Novak Djokovic in the French Open semi-final, a match that was hampered by cramps.

Djokovic, a dominant force at Wimbledon with only two losses since 2013, expressed surprise at Alcaraz's rapid mastery of playing on various surfaces in the sport.

Following his hard-fought loss to Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic expressed his surprise at the young player's exceptional performance.

Djokovic admitted that he had not anticipated Alcaraz's strong showing on grass but acknowledged that he has proven himself to be the best player in the world. According to Djokovic, he has never encountered a player quite like Alcaraz before. He noted that Alcaraz's game incorporates elements from the styles of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and himself.

Djokovic described Alcaraz as possessing the tenacious fighting spirit and formidable defense of Nadal, along with impressive backhands reminiscent of his own.

Despite facing a pro-Alcaraz crowd and experiencing moments of frustration, Djokovic displayed grace in defeat. However, he acknowledged feeling some regrets about not capitalizing on opportunities during crucial moments.

After dominating the first set, Djokovic engaged in a grueling 85-minute second set. He even had a chance to secure a two-set lead in the tiebreak but unfortunately made an unforced error, hitting a backhand into the net.

Making a strong comeback and winning the fourth set, Djokovic missed crucial opportunities in the deciding set of his match against Alcaraz. He lost his own serve and expressed his frustration by smashing his racket into the net post, resulting in a warning from officials.

Djokovic admitted that his backhand shots failed him at critical moments, leading to a shift in momentum in favor of Alcaraz. He struggled to regain composure but managed to regain momentum in the fourth set.

However, challenging wind conditions affected his ability to execute a smash in the fifth set, contributing to his loss.

Djokovic acknowledged his racket-smashing behavior as an expression of frustration and received a warning for his actions. Thankfully, there were no injuries caused by the flying debris.
