In a recent announcement, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will allow users to seamlessly switch between two different WhatsApp accounts on a single Android device. This feature aims to eliminate the need to carry an extra device or constantly log in and out of accounts.
This development is set to streamline the management of conversations across multiple accounts, especially for users who maintain separate WhatsApp profiles for work and personal use. The feature is scheduled to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
It's worth noting that to set up a second WhatsApp account, users will still require a distinct phone number and SIM card or a phone capable of accepting multi-SIM or eSIM. The initial verification process involves receiving a one-time passcode via SMS, which requires the second device or its SIM card. However, once this verification is completed, the app will function seamlessly for both accounts on the same device, eliminating the need for an additional device or SIM.
Meta has been consistently working on enhancing accessibility to WhatsApp accounts across various devices. They previously introduced a multi-device feature in 2021, enabling users to access their accounts on Android tablets, browsers, and computers. This feature has since been expanded to include additional smartphones, liberating users from the previous constraint of using WhatsApp on a single device.
