Seeking God's Will in the Synod on Synodality: Archbishop Armendariz's Insights

Archbishop Faustino Armendáriz, a participant in the Synod on Synodality at the Vatican, expressed the challenge of seeking God's will in the midst of diverse voices and ideas.

He emphasized that the focus should be on discerning God's will rather than making drastic changes. He believed that the shared proposals and experiences would help illuminate the path for the Church. Archbishop Armendáriz acknowledged the difficulties of achieving synodality due to differing ideas and cultures but shared his experience of successfully collaborating within a small circle.

He described synodality as "walking together" and explained that it involves invoking the presence of the Holy Spirit, taking time for reflection, and ultimately seeking what the Spirit inspires in participants. The Archbishop emphasized that when the synod's work is done in the name of God, it removes the risk of a calculated approach and allows for genuine sharing.

In terms of the synodal process, he highlighted the importance of spiritual conversation and attentive listening to the Holy Spirit. He also mentioned the unique approach of incorporating moments of silence and reflection during small-circle discussions.

Regarding the document from the German Synodal Way, Archbishop Armendáriz stressed that while their perspective is respected, it doesn't alter the spiritual tone of the ongoing synod. He encouraged patience and serenity in awaiting positive outcomes from the Synod on Synodality and invited bishops worldwide to express their opinions.

The Archbishop concluded by mentioning the Pope's daily encouragement and the sense of experiencing the light of the Spirit within the assembly and the synodal hall.
