One-Hundred Thirty Syro-Malabar Catechism students receive Solemn Holy Communion and Anointing in Dubai

Dubai - The Syro-Malabar Faithful in Dubai witnessed 130 children from the Syro-Malabar Catechism, receiving Solemn Holy Communion and Sacrament of Anointing (Confirmation) in St. Mary's Church, Dubai last Saturday.

Sacrament of Anointing was administered to children who did not receive Anointing during their Baptism.

The entire celebration was telecast Live on YouTube.

The children received the Sacraments after extensive faith formation under the Syro-Malabar Catechism which functions as a part of the Syro-Malabar Community and St Mary’s Church in Dubai.

Children were given the Rosary and Scapular prior the Holy Qurbana by Fr. Varghese Kozhippadan, spiritual director of Malayalam Community as well as Syro-Malabar Community.

The children entered the Church for the Holy Qurbana in a procession, signifying the one-year spiritual journey leading them to this blessed day.

The lamp was lit by Father Varghese, Vipin Varghese (Headmaster), Manoj Thomas (Syro-Malabar Community President), Parents representative and children representative.

Children candles were further lit from the lamp, signifying that ‘they are to be the light of the world’ said Father Varghese.

The children were prepared through six extensive sessions, prayer recitals, Retreat and the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior receiving the Sacraments.

The Syro-Malabar Catechism administers Faith Formation in English to almost 1800 children in two batches in St. Marys Church. This has helped the children of the Syro-Malabar rite to be introduced and practice the traditions of the Church, while they are away from their home country.

The Faithful who witnessed the event said it was indeed a blessed day for both the community and the children.
