Pope Francis is set to make history as the first Pope to attend a G7 Summit, held this year in Borgo Egnazia, Puglia, Italy, from June 13 to 15, under Italy's presidency.
The Holy See Press Office has detailed the Pope’s program for his visit on June 14, emphasizing his role in discussions on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The G7 Summit includes the participation of leaders from the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, the European Council and Commission, and various other states and international organizations invited by Italy.
Pope Francis will depart from the Vatican by helicopter at 11 am, arriving at a sports field in Borgo Egnazia around 12:30 pm, where he will be greeted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
He will then proceed to the summit venue via golf cart to begin a series of bilateral meetings. These will include discussions with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
At 2:15 pm, Pope Francis will deliver his address in the “Sala Arena,” focusing on AI. After listening to other speeches, a group photo session is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
Pope will then engage in a second round of bilateral meetings with Kenya’s President William Samoei Ruto, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joseph Biden, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Pope is scheduled to depart by helicopter at 7:45 pm, returning to the Vatican around 9:15 pm.
