The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) has announced comprehensive rehabilitation plans for the victims of landslides in Mundakkai, Chooralmala in Wayanad district, and Vilangad in Kozhikode district. The KCBC will build and provide 100 houses for the displaced individuals. These houses will be constructed on land provided by the government, donated by the church, or identified by the individuals themselves. For those interested in relocating to other districts, arrangements will also be made. Construction will begin once the necessary permissions are obtained from the government.
The rehabilitation plan includes providing essential household items, taking responsibility for children's education, setting up income-generating projects for the affected families, enrolling them in various social security programs, forming counseling teams with experts for continuous mental support, and ensuring safe spaces for isolated individuals and children. Additionally, emergency financial aid of ₹9,500 will be provided to each family affected by the disaster in Wayanad.
The meeting of bishops, representatives from Caritas India, CRS, and social service directors from various dioceses called for the government to provide appropriate compensation for the damages and evacuations. This meeting finalized the rehabilitation plans. The KCBC President Cardinal Baselios Cleemis Catholicos announced that the diocesan leadership committees will oversee the implementation of these plans. The press conference was attended by KCBC Secretary General Bishop Alex Vadakkumthala, Justice for Peace and Development Chairman Bishop Jose Pulikkal, Arch Bishop Joseph Pamblani, Bishop Jose Perunnedm, Bishop Remigiose Inchananiyil, Bishop Joseph Mar Thomas, Bishop Varghese Chakkalakkal, Kerala Social Service Forum Director Fr.
