First Holy Communion Preparatory Classes Begin for Syro-Malabar Community in Germany

The Syro-Malabar Rite (Indian Catholic Community) within the Archdiocese of Cologne, Germany, has commenced the preparatory classes for the First Holy Communion of children, which is scheduled for April 26, 2025. The inaugural session took place with a Holy Mass at St. Theresia Church in Cologne, presided over by Rev. Father Ignatious Chalissery CMI. This year, 12 children will be receiving their First Holy Communion.

Holy Mass is celebrated every month on the first and third Sundays at St. Theresia Church, and on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Sundays at Herz Jesu Church in Cologne. To keep children connected to the Church and its faith, catechism classes are conducted at St. Theresia Church under the guidance of the Sisters.

Under the leadership of Father Ignatius, the church's Coordinating Committee, with Anthony Zacharias serving as Convener, is overseeing the church's activities. Prayers are requested for the community members in Germany, that they may continue to stay close to the Church and their faith.
