Samsung unveils a new phone trade-in program that doesn't require purchasing a new device

Samsung has launched a pilot initiative called the Galaxy Trade-In Program, which offers a fresh take on device trade-ins. Unlike traditional programs, this one allows users to derive value from their old devices without requiring the purchase of a new phone. Initially rolled out in South Korea and France, the program is operated by Likewize.

According to the terms, eligible devices include models like the Galaxy S23, S22, S21, S20 series, Z Fold5, Fold4, Fold3, Flip5, Flip4, and Flip3. However, the eligibility list may differ by country, as stated in the fine print.

Details for the Galaxy Trade-In Program in South Korea and France are accessible online, with the program officially going live today. Samsung plans to expand it to additional markets later this year, though specifics on which markets remain undisclosed.

The Korean press release sheds light on the program’s grading system, where devices are categorized as Excellent, Good, or Recycle. Customers receive a payout based on their device’s grade, with exact amounts available on the program's webpage (still under development at the time of writing).

“We are thrilled to introduce the year-round Galaxy Trade-In Program as part of our commitment to enhancing the value of Galaxy devices for users and supporting a circular economy. This initiative ensures customers can maximize the value of their devices while enjoying secure trade-in transactions,” said Jun Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Galaxy Value Innovation team at Samsung Electronics.
