Staff and patients at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital have come together in a heartfelt show of solidarity for Pope Francis, dedicating daily moments of prayer through Eucharistic Adoration and Mass.
Cardinal Baldassare Reina, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Rome, issued a statement on behalf of the Italian Bishops, emphasizing the Church’s support for the Holy Father and calling for collective prayer.
"Recognizing the immense power of communal prayer, we urge all parishes and religious communities to dedicate an hour to silent adoration," Cardinal Reina stated. "As one united family, we seek the Lord’s grace to strengthen our Bishop during this challenging time."
Responding to this call, the Gemelli University Hospital community, along with the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, has intensified its prayer efforts for the Pope’s well-being.
Beginning Monday, February 24, and continuing throughout Pope Francis' hospital stay, a daily hour of Eucharistic Adoration will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the St. John Paul II Chapel within the hospital, followed by a Mass.
Additionally, at 4:30 p.m. Rome time, the faithful will gather before the statue of St. John Paul II in the hospital square to recite the Rosary. This will be followed by another Mass at 5:00 p.m. in the Hospital Hall.
Believers across the world are invited to join in these prayers, whether in person or from afar. Those unable to attend in Rome are encouraged to recite a special prayer for Pope Francis:
"Lord Jesus, Redeemer of the world, who took upon yourself our pain and carried our suffering in your passion, hear the prayer we offer for our sick brother: grant him trust and revive his hope, that he may be lifted up in body and spirit."
