Pope Francis' Health Improving, But Further Stability Needed

Pope Francis’ health continues to improve, though additional days of clinical stability are required before his prognosis can be fully clarified, according to a communiqué from the Holy See Press Office on Thursday evening.

Pope, who is undergoing treatment for bilateral pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, has been alternating high-flow oxygen therapy with a Ventimask. Despite passing the most critical phase, his condition remains complex, prompting doctors to maintain a cautious approach.

On Thursday, Holy Father underwent respiratory physiotherapy in the morning, followed by periods of rest. In the afternoon, after another physiotherapy session, he spent time in prayer in the chapel of his private apartment on the 10th floor, where he received the Eucharist. He then resumed work activities.

A separate update from the Press Office earlier in the day noted that Pope Francis had slept well, was able to get out of bed, and continued treatment while seated in his armchair. Reports indicate that he remains in good spirits.

In light of his ongoing recovery, the Vatican has cancelled the scheduled Jubilee Audience for Saturday, 1 March.

Pope Francis was admitted to Gemelli Hospital on 14 February following a bout of bronchitis, which later developed into bilateral pneumonia. The Vatican continues to monitor his condition closely.
