Pope Leo XIV’s Life Story Set for Official Release Tomorrow

Vatican City: A landmark biography chronicling the life of Pope Leo XIV—the first American to ascend to the papacy—will be unveiled tomorrow, May 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the historic Campo Santo Teutonico within Vatican City.

Titled “Leo XIV: A Profile of the First American Pope,” the biography is authored by Dr. Matthew Bunson, noted Church historian and Vice President of EWTN News. As the editorial director of the Eternal Word Television Network—the world’s foremost Catholic broadcasting platform—Bunson presents the first in-depth and authoritative look at the life of Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Prevost, who was elected the 267th successor of Saint Peter on May 8.

The book offers a comprehensive portrait of the 69-year-old Pontiff’s journey of faith, structured around three core aspects of his vocation: his sanctifying role as a priest, his administrative leadership as a bishop, and his prophetic calling as a teacher and missionary.

Michael Warsaw, EWTN Chairman and CEO, expressed the network’s commitment to making the Holy Father's story accessible to the global faithful. “Our mission is to bring the life and witness of the Pope to the world—from his humble beginnings to his historic role as the Vicar of Christ,” Warsaw told CNA.

The release marks a significant moment in Church history, offering insight into a Pope whose unique American heritage and pastoral background have already begun to shape his vision for the universal Church.
