Gulf tensions cause great anxiety for India, government calls for calm

New Delhi: India has expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in the Gulf region, saying the fast changing situation has caused great anxiety for the country. The statement came as the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States continues to affect the wider Middle East.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the safety of Indian citizens and the stability of energy supplies are top priorities. Officials noted that the Gulf region is very important for India because millions of Indians live and work there, and a large share of India’s oil imports passes through the area.

Government sources said at least one Indian working on a tanker was killed in a recent attack, and some others have been reported missing. Indian embassies in the region have issued advisories asking citizens to remain careful and stay in contact with local authorities.

India has urged all sides to show restraint and return to dialogue. Officials stressed that more fighting could harm civilians and damage the global economy. The government said it is closely monitoring developments and is ready to take necessary steps to protect Indian nationals.

There is also concern about the impact on oil prices. A large portion of India’s crude oil imports moves through the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route in the Gulf. Any disruption there could increase fuel prices and affect inflation in India. Financial markets have already shown signs of nervousness amid the uncertainty.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been in touch with officials and is reviewing the situation. The government has said that India has adequate energy reserves for now, but it continues to assess risks as tensions remain high.

As the conflict unfolds, India is walking a careful diplomatic path, maintaining relations with all sides while strongly appealing for peace and stability in the region.
