Egypt Vows to Prevent Palestinian Displacement Amid Gaza Crisis

Cairo: Egypt has intensified its diplomatic stance on the ongoing Gaza conflict, warning against any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from the besieged territory. Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, speaking from Nicosia, underscored that Egypt considers the relocation of Palestinians a “red line” that cannot be crossed, describing any such action as a direct assault on Palestinian rights and existence.

Abdelatty condemned the recent Israeli military operations in Gaza, labeling them as a form of genocide and a deliberate attempt to erase the Palestinian presence from their homeland. He emphasized that forced displacement would amount to the “liquidation” of the Palestinian cause, stressing Egypt’s commitment to opposing measures that threaten regional stability and Palestinian sovereignty.

This stance is consistent with Egypt’s longstanding position against proposals that would see Palestinians resettled outside Gaza. Egypt has previously rejected plans by international actors, including former U.S. proposals, which suggested relocating millions of Palestinians, calling such measures unjust and destabilizing. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has even signaled that Egypt would abstain from diplomatic talks if Palestinian displacement were on the agenda, reflecting the nation’s firm diplomatic posture.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical. Over 64,000 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives since the outbreak of conflict in October 2023. While Israel claims control over 40% of Gaza City, many residents have defied evacuation orders, choosing to remain in their homes despite ongoing military operations. The international community continues to call for an immediate ceasefire and renewed negotiations to halt the escalating crisis.

Egypt’s declaration represents a key voice in the Middle East, advocating for Palestinian rights and highlighting the dangers of forced displacement. As the conflict unfolds, Cairo’s firm stance may influence regional diplomacy and shape international responses aimed at protecting Gaza’s civilian population.
