Investigators Recover Rifle, Release Images in Charlie Kirk Killing Probe

Utah: Investigators probing the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk have recovered what they believe to be the murder weapon and released surveillance images of a person of interest, as the nationwide manhunt intensifies.

Authorities confirmed that a high-powered bolt-action rifle was found wrapped in a towel in wooded terrain near Utah Valley University, close to the scene of the attack. Forensic experts are examining the weapon for fingerprints, DNA, and ballistic matches to the cartridges recovered after the shooting.

The FBI and Utah Department of Public Safety also released grainy surveillance images showing a college-age individual wearing a dark baseball cap, sunglasses, and a long-sleeve shirt with an eagle-and-flag design. Officials described the person as a “potential shooter” and urged the public to provide any information that could help identify them. A $100,000 reward has been offered for tips leading to an arrest.

The attack took place during an outdoor event on campus, where a shot fired from a rooftop fatally struck Kirk. The suspect fled on foot, sparking a large-scale search that has so far yielded no arrests. Two people who were initially detained were later released without charges.q

Investigators are piecing together evidence from surveillance footage, ammunition markings, and eyewitness accounts. Reports indicate that some cartridges recovered bore political or ideological inscriptions, though officials have not confirmed a motive.

Federal and state authorities have pledged continued updates as the investigation develops, with security heightened in the area and appeals issued for public assistance in identifying the suspect.
