Washington: Former US President Donald Trump has called on NATO allies to impose tariffs ranging from 50 to 100 percent on China until the war between Russia and Ukraine comes to an end. He also urged tougher measures against Russia, claiming that China holds significant influence over Moscow.
Trump demanded that both India and China, which continue to maintain trade relations with Russia, should face 100 percent tariffs. However, the European Union rejected this proposal, signaling opposition to such punitive measures against the two countries.
The former president criticized NATO, saying its commitment to victory in the Russia–Ukraine conflict remains less than complete. He expressed surprise that some countries are still purchasing Russian oil despite the ongoing war.
Calling the conflict a deadly but absurd war, Trump argued that it would never have begun under his leadership. He referred to the crisis as Biden’s and Zelensky’s war and claimed that thousands of lives could be saved if NATO followed his lead.
“If NATO does as I say, the war will end quickly. Otherwise, it is a waste of time, energy, and money,” Trump stated, urging for swift and decisive action.
