New York: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a forceful address to the 193-member United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, calling on world powers to unite in halting Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine. Zelensky warned that the conflict, if allowed to continue, is fueling one of the most destructive arms races in modern history, with the potential to destabilize Europe and beyond.
Speaking from the UN podium, Zelensky accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of attempting to expand the war beyond Ukraine’s borders. He highlighted alleged violations of NATO airspace by Russian drones and fighter jets over Poland and Estonia, describing these actions as a dangerous testing of boundaries that threatens regional and international security. “Now Russian drones are already flying across Europe, and Russian operations are already spreading across countries. Putin wants to continue this war by expanding it, and no one can feel safe right now,” Zelensky stated.
Emphasizing the economic and strategic costs of inaction, Zelensky stressed that stopping the war would be far less expensive than constructing underground bunkers, fortified infrastructure, and other defensive measures in a world under continuous threat. He also announced Ukraine’s decision to begin exporting its domestically developed weapons to allied nations. “You don’t need to start this race from scratch. We’re ready to share what has already proven itself,” he said, presenting Ukraine’s weapons as tested, reliable tools for strengthening global security.
Zelensky’s address underscores the urgent need for international cooperation to confront Russia’s aggression and prevent further escalation. His call to action was clear: global powers must act decisively to end the war, support Ukraine, and avert a potential arms catastrophe that could engulf the continent.
