‘Will Respond to Even the Slightest Provocation’: Pakistan Army Chief Issues New Nuclear Threat to India; Sources Says

Islamabad: Tensions on the subcontinent escalated sharply as Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir issued a chilling nuclear threat against India, vowing that Islamabad would respond “beyond expectations” to any perceived provocation. Speaking to the media, Munir warned that even the slightest Indian action could trigger a devastating response, with “catastrophic consequences for the entire region.” He placed full responsibility for any escalation squarely on New Delhi.

This marks yet another in a series of aggressive statements by the Pakistani Army Chief, who previously warned that if Pakistan were to fall, it would take “half the world with it.” Analysts say Munir’s rhetoric is part of a broader strategy to project deterrence amid mounting regional tensions, particularly along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The threat comes amid renewed border unrest. While Pakistan and Afghanistan had agreed to a 48-hour extension of the ceasefire, the truce was quickly undermined when Pakistani airstrikes targeted Paktika province along the Durand Line, prompting Kabul to announce a suspension of diplomatic engagement with Islamabad. Taliban forces were reportedly conducting heavy operations in the border areas at the time, further intensifying the volatile situation.

India responded firmly to the Pakistani provocation. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized that “every inch of Pakistan’s territory is now within the range of India’s BrahMos missiles.” Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the first batch of BrahMos missiles produced at the BrahMos Aerospace Unit in Lucknow, Singh underscored India’s readiness to defend its territory and deter any aggressive moves from across the border.

Experts warn that repeated threats by Pakistan, coupled with ongoing border skirmishes, have heightened the risk of miscalculations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. While Pakistan seeks to project strength through high-decibel warnings, India’s missile capabilities and strategic posture signal that it is prepared for any escalation.

The subcontinent now finds itself in a precarious situation, with diplomatic channels strained, ceasefire agreements fragile, and rhetoric from both sides indicating the potential for rapid escalation. Observers caution that careful restraint and strategic dialogue are essential to prevent any confrontation from spiraling into a broader conflict with far-reaching consequences for regional stability.
