Scenic Beauty and Climate
Rwanda earns its nickname Land of a Thousand Hills thanks to its lush, mountainous terrain, fertile valleys, shimmering lakes, and rich biodiversity. The tropical highland climate offers year-round pleasant temperatures (16°C–28°C), with two rainy seasons (March–May and September–November) and dry months (June–August) ideal for travel.
Population and Faith
Predominantly young and rural, Rwanda is gradually urbanizing. Deeply Christian, 94% of Rwandans follow Christianity (Catholics 56.9%, Protestants 26%, Seventh-Day Adventists 11.1%). Islam accounts for 4.6%, with Hinduism and Buddhism making up 1.4%. A small but influential Indian community adds cultural and economic diversity.
Economy and Innovation

Rwanda’s service-driven economy is complemented by agriculture, energy, industry, and tourism. In 2024, GDP growth reached 8.9%. Despite challenges, Rwanda ranks highly in innovation and corruption control in the region.
History and Reconciliation
The 1994 genocide claimed nearly one million lives, leaving deep scars. Yet Rwanda has progressed in reconciliation, infrastructure, and digital transformation. The Kigali Genocide Memorial serves as a solemn reminder and a beacon of hope.
Kibeho: A Sacred Pilgrimage
Kibeho, in southern Rwanda, is the only Vatican-approved site of Marian apparitions in Africa. Beginning in 1981, three schoolgirls reported visions of the Virgin Mary, delivering messages of prayer, repentance, and warnings of future violence. Today, the Shrine of Our Lady of Kibeho attracts thousands annually, especially on November 28.

Indian Community and Contributions
The Indian community, around 3,000 strong, mainly from Kerala, has enriched Rwanda’s economy in trading, services, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, and education. Institutions like Wiwo Speciality Hospital provide high-quality local healthcare. The Indian Club House hosts cultural events, celebrations, and community gatherings.
Spiritual and Social Impact
The Vincentian Congregation operates the Divine Retreat Centre in Cyeru, Bugesera District, offering free monthly retreats for 2,000–2,500 participants. Prominent individuals, like Mr. Binoy Thomas Pynadath, contribute to Kigali’s hospitality sector and CNewsLive coordination.

Kigali International Airport links Rwanda globally with airlines including RwandAir, Kenya Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Qatar Airways, EgyptAir, KLM, and Badr Airlines. RwandAir operates direct flights from Kigali to Mumbai (WB500) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
