Delhi on High Alert After Red Fort Blast; Northern Railway Tightens Security at Key Stations

New Delhi: A sudden explosion near the historic Red Fort metro station in Delhi on Monday evening has thrown the national capital into panic. At least eight people have been confirmed dead, with several others injured. The blast, which occurred in a car parked outside the Lal Quila metro station, remains under investigation, and authorities have yet to confirm the exact nature of the explosion.

In response to the incident, Northern Railway (NR) has heightened security across five critical stations within the Delhi division. Speaking to media, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of NR, confirmed that additional security personnel have been deployed at entry gates, exit points, and platforms. Dog squads are actively conducting checks, and all railway staff have been instructed to remain vigilant.

The stations under heightened surveillance include New Delhi Railway Station, Delhi, Anand Vihar Terminal, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Ghaziabad. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and General Railway Police (GRP) are coordinating closely to monitor both station premises and surrounding areas through CCTV and regular patrols. Individuals displaying suspicious behavior are being thoroughly checked to prevent any secondary incidents.

Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution while traveling and advised extra time for passage through affected stations. The heightened security measures reflect the serious concern over potential threats to major transportation hubs following the blast, especially given the symbolic significance of the Red Fort area and the high density of daily commuters.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the perpetrators and motive behind the explosion. Meanwhile, the government has sounded a city-wide high alert, emphasizing public vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
