AICUF Karnataka Marks AICUF Day with Vibrant Celebration of Democracy and Diversity

Bengaluru: The All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF) Karnataka observed AICUF Day and Constitution Day with a dynamic state-level gathering titled “Samatva – Rhythms of Unity in Diversity” at St Joseph’s Pre-University College, Bengaluru. The event brought together student leaders from AICUF units across Karnataka for a day of reflection, dialogue, and cultural expression aimed at strengthening democratic values and nurturing socially conscious leadership.

The celebration drew an impressive lineup of guests representing public service, law, education, and the arts. Smt. Margaret Alva, veteran parliamentarian and a proud Senior AICUFER, served as the Chief Guest. Sharing memories from her early involvement with AICUF and decades in public life, she urged students to uphold justice, equality, and compassion principles she described as essential for anyone aspiring to lead in a democratic society.

Offering the keynote address, Senior Advocate Ravi Varma Kumar, former Advocate General of Karnataka, underscored the Indian Constitution as a powerful guardian of rights, especially for vulnerable and marginalised groups. He encouraged young people to understand the Constitution not merely as a legal text but as a guide for social transformation.

A thematic message by Fr. Jesu Benjamine SJ, National Advisor of AICUF, focused on the movement’s core mission of forming leaders committed to integrity and service. He reminded participants that AICUF’s identity is rooted in standing with the oppressed and nurturing ethical leadership in campuses.

A special Constitutional Awareness segment, led by Shaik Salman and the AICUF State Council, created an interactive space for students to explore themes of citizenship, democratic duty, and participatory governance. Through discussions and activities, participants examined how young people can contribute to a more just and inclusive society.

Adding vibrancy to the event, the programme included an Inter-College Cultural Competition, featuring performances in dance, street theatre, mime, and short dramatic pieces. The artistic displays reflected both creativity and the social concerns of today’s youth. Judges Danny Kanikaraj, actor and choreographer, and Bharatanatyam dancer Hema, praised the originality and social relevance of the presentations.

The day concluded with a valedictory address by Dr. K. Ramachandra Paul, retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, who encouraged students to carry forward the spirit of responsibility and national commitment reflected throughout the programme. Trophies and certificates were then distributed to participating teams, followed by a group photograph that captured the sense of unity and purpose that characterised the celebration.

With renewed enthusiasm and a deeper understanding of constitutional values, participants left the event inspired to strengthen AICUF’s vision of unity in diversity and active citizenship.
