The Church teaches that from the very first moment of her existence, the Blessed Virgin Mary was preserved by God from original sin. This special grace was given to her through the saving work of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of all people. She received, in advance, the gift of salvation so she could be the pure and holy Mother of the Savior.
In 1854, through the document *Ineffabilis Deus*, Pope Pius IX formally confirmed this belief, which had long been held in the Church. Mary received this privilege not for herself alone, but because of her unique and sacred mission as the Mother of God.
Although Saint Mary is the only human person conceived without sin, the Church presents her as a guide and example for all believers. Her life shows purity, humility, and a heart ready to follow the will of God.
Every person is invited by God to discover and live their vocation. Just as Saint Mary responded to the angel Gabriel with trust and obedience, saying, “Let it be done to me according to your word,” Christians are called to say "yes" to God’s plans in their own lives.
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception invites us to rejoice in the gift God has given to the world through Saint Mary. It also reminds us that God lovingly creates each person with a purpose and a mission that only they can fulfill.
As we read in the Book of Jeremiah:
"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I consecrated you and appointed you a prophet to the nations."
