World Peace Day 2026 Celebrated in Mysuru Through Interfaith Solidarity

Mysuru: The Diocese of Mysore observed World Peace Day 2026 with a vibrant interfaith programme at the St. Philomena’s Church Campus, highlighting a collective commitment to peace, justice, harmony, and human fraternity. The event, themed “Peace · Justice · Harmony · Human Fraternity,” was jointly organized by the Peace and Justice Commission, the Inter-Religious Commission of the Diocese, and the Department of Christianity, University of Mysore, fostering dialogue and collaboration across diverse faith communities.

Guided by the pastoral leadership of Bishop Francis Serrao SJ, the observance brought together religious leaders, scholars, and representatives from multiple faith traditions, reflecting the urgent need for cooperation in a world often marked by conflict and division.

The programme opened with a dance performance by children from the Mercy Residential School for the Hearing Impaired, invoking a spirit of hope and togetherness. This was followed by a welcome address emphasizing the significance of interfaith engagement in building bridges across cultures and religions. The World Peace Day message of the Pope was read, urging reconciliation, compassion, and dialogue as cornerstones of a peaceful society.

Representatives of the Buddhist, Hindu, and Brahma Kumaris traditions shared reflections on inner transformation, ethical living, and spiritual responsibility, underscoring the role of personal and communal values in fostering harmony. Their messages highlighted that peace is nurtured not just through words but through consistent actions rooted in compassion and understanding.

The observance featured cultural performances that enriched the celebration. A skit portraying the life and teachings of St. Francis of Assisi highlighted humility, service, and love for all creation. Children’s dances focused on unity and non-violence, while a prayer song by the Cathedral Choir further deepened the spiritual atmosphere, creating a sense of shared purpose and reflection among participants.

In his address, Bishop Francis Serrao SJ encouraged participants of all faiths to translate their words into meaningful action, becoming active builders of peace and justice in their communities. He stressed that harmony is cultivated not only in grand gestures but also through everyday acts of understanding, service, and empathy.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, recognizing the efforts of organizers, participants, and collaborators who contributed to making the World Peace Day observance a resounding affirmation of interfaith solidarity in Mysuru.

The event reinforced the Diocese’s commitment to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and shared responsibility, demonstrating that peace is not merely a concept but a lived experience nurtured through community engagement and mutual respect.
