India plans border air drills while Pakistan urges peace

New Delhi: India is preparing to conduct major air force drills near its border with Pakistan in the coming days, a move that has drawn attention across the region amid existing tensions between the two neighbours.

According to official sources, the exercises will be carried out by the Indian Air Force in areas close to the Rajasthan sector along the international border. Authorities in New Delhi have described the drills as part of routine military preparedness and training activities. Such exercises are conducted periodically to test operational readiness and coordination.

However, the announcement has raised concerns in Islamabad. Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari said that his country does not want war and prefers peace and dialogue. Speaking at a public event, he stressed that conflict would only harm both nations and the wider region. He called on India to choose talks over confrontation and said that stability is in the interest of both sides.

Security analysts note that military exercises near sensitive borders often create anxiety, especially when relations are already strained. In recent years, both countries have experienced periods of heightened tension following border incidents and political disputes. Although ceasefire understandings remain in place, mistrust continues.

There has been no official indication that the current drills are linked to any immediate escalation. Indian officials maintain that the exercise schedule was planned in advance. At the same time, Pakistan’s leadership has urged restraint and mutual respect to prevent misunderstandings.

Observers say that while military preparedness is a normal practice for any nation, open communication and diplomatic engagement remain key to avoiding unnecessary tensions between the two nuclear armed neighbours.
