A life of service shaped by faith and a call to holiness

Vatican City: For Sr. Maria Małgorzata Cur, the path to religious life began with simple encounters that left a lasting impression. As a child, she saw the Franciscan Sisters of the Family of Mary serving in her home parish in Poland. Their presence gradually helped her understand that religious life was not only about prayer and religious duties, but also about serving people with humility, kindness and love.

The sisters taught catechism, cared for parish activities and offered medical assistance to families who needed help. They also spent time with children through games and gardening. Their warmth made people feel welcome and gave children a strong sense of belonging. For Sr. Małgorzata, these experiences became an important foundation for her own vocation.

As she continued to discern her calling, she eventually joined the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate. There she discovered a strong Marian spirituality and a community where sisters supported one another in their religious journey. Her formation combined spiritual growth with education, preparing her for a life of teaching and pastoral service.

Sr. Małgorzata studied education and theology and later worked as a teacher and catechist. Much of her ministry involved caring for people in vulnerable situations. She worked with children, young people and adults in care facilities, where her role went beyond education. She sought to accompany people in their everyday struggles and help them recognise their dignity and value.

Her responsibilities later included leading a centre for sick children and a crisis intervention centre. These experiences brought her into close contact with people facing difficult circumstances. They also taught her the importance of patience, humility and responsibility.

In her work with children, Sr. Małgorzata pays close attention to each person's individual needs. She uses prayer, play and ordinary daily activities to build trust and confidence. Her approach reflects a belief that every person deserves to be treated with respect and given the opportunity to recognise their own worth.

A central part of her religious mission is the congregation's charism of saving souls. This mission is connected with the vision of its founder, Jan Schneider, who sought to help girls and women living in difficult situations. His approach combined spiritual care with practical assistance.

Sr. Małgorzata tries to live this mission through her daily contact with those entrusted to her. Rather than seeing service simply as a duty, she understands it as an opportunity to bring hope and God's love to people who may be struggling. Her ministry is expressed through listening, presence, compassion and practical care.

Another important part of her work has been promoting the life and spiritual legacy of Sr. Dulcissima Hoffmann. Through initiatives such as Sundays with Dulcissima, retreats for children and young people, radio programmes, publications, symposiums, concerts and community gatherings, she has helped introduce more people to Sr. Dulcissima's spirituality.

For Sr. Małgorzata, this is more than an educational or historical project. She describes her relationship with Sr. Dulcissima as a quiet spiritual guidance that encourages her in her own vocation. The example of prayer, sacrifice and faithfulness has become a source of strength in her daily life.

Events such as Dulcissima Days and spiritual retreats have also helped create a growing community of people inspired by Sr. Dulcissima's witness. Participants come together for prayer, the Eucharist, reflection and fellowship. Their experiences show how the witness of one religious woman can continue to encourage faith and spiritual growth many years after her death.

Promoting Sr. Dulcissima's legacy has also changed Sr. Małgorzata herself. Through this mission, she has deepened her own prayer life and gained a stronger understanding of service. She finds inspiration in the way Sr. Dulcissima lived her faith through sacrifice and small acts of love.

She also sees a connection between Sr. Dulcissima and St. Thérèse of Lisieux, particularly in their understanding that holiness can be found in ordinary acts carried out with love. This perspective has shaped Sr. Małgorzata's understanding of her own vocation.

As the 90th anniversary of Sr. Dulcissima Hoffmann's death approaches, Sr. Małgorzata sees the promotion of her spiritual legacy as a way of helping the Church rediscover the possibility of holiness in everyday life. She hopes people will understand that holiness does not always require extraordinary achievements. It can grow through prayer, sacrifice, kindness, responsibility and care for others.

Her life brings together education, catechesis, leadership, compassion and spiritual promotion. From her childhood encounters with religious sisters to her present work serving vulnerable people and sharing the legacy of Sr. Dulcissima, her journey has been shaped by a consistent desire to serve.

Sr. Maria Małgorzata Cur's story offers a simple message about religious vocation. Faith becomes meaningful when it is lived through concrete acts of love. Her work shows how teaching a child, caring for someone who is suffering, accompanying a person in difficulty or sharing the example of a holy life can become an expression of God's love.

Through these ordinary acts of service, she continues to live the mission of her congregation and to encourage others to see holiness not as something distant, but as a calling that can be lived every day.
