Longest Suspension footbridge opens for adrenaline seekers

Sky Bridge 721, longest suspension footbridge in the world opened to its first visitors on 13th May. The suspension bridge opened at a mountain resort in the Czech Republic, the previous such record held by Arouca 516 in Portugal.

The Sky Bridge 721 spans the Mlýnský Stream valley at a height of 95 metres and is 721 metres long. It starts from the ridge of Slamník Mountain to the ridge of Chlum Mountain, offering its visitors enchanting views of the landscape, the pure nature of Králický Sněžník mountain range near the border with Poland, some 200 kilometers (125 miles) east of Prague.

A unique technical feat, visitors will step onto the bridge at an altitude of 1,125 metres and off it at 1,135 metres above sea level.

Adrenaline seekers and visitors with enough courage to step onto the bridge, will find themselves 95 metres (312 feet) above the ground at its highest point.

Up to 500 people will be allowed to be on the bridge at any one time, although that number is halved for the first two weeks following Friday’s opening.

The bridge will be closed for safety reasons if winds reach 135 kph.

The construction took two years and cost some 200 million Czech crowns ($8.3 million).
