The lame fox and the generous tiger (Facts in Fables - 9)

Do not deceive yourselves; no one makes a fool of God. You will reap exactly what you plant. Galatians 6:7

A fox who lived in the forest lost its front legs, while escaping a trap. A man who lived on the edge of the forest often saw the lame fox wandering around and wondered how he managed to find its food.

One day when the fox was not far from him, he decided to observe it. Soon he saw a tiger walking towards the fox with its catch. When the tiger reached the fox, it lay down on the ground and ate its fill, leaving the rest for the fox.

Again the next day, the man saw the same tiger leaving a share of food for the fox. The man began to think: "If this fox is taken care of in this mysterious way, why don't I just rest in a corner and have my daily meal provided for by someone?"

The man had great faith in God so he waited expecting help from an unknown source. Days passed on. Nothing seemed to happen, no one came to serve him free food. After a few days, at the verge of collapse, he heard a voice that said, "O believer, you have mistaken the ways of God! You should have followed the example of that tiger instead of imitating the disabled fox."

Are we not travellers of the same boat? Instead of doing things that we are supposed to, often we believe that God will miraculously make things happen for us.

If we are dutiful and meticulous in completing our works and leave the rest to God, God will put things right. Instead of being like the man in the story, let us be like the tiger.

With compassion let us live our life dutifully and wait for God’s interference in fructifying it.

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38
