The Midnight Sun -Tingling Mind 15

The Midnight Sun -Tingling Mind 15

Is there a place where the sun never sets?

Yes, there is places where the Sun Never Sets and this phenomenon is known as "The Midnight Sun". The name can be self-explanatory, but it is one of Earth’s most remarkable natural phenomena.

However, it can also refer to the time of year when the Sun will remain in the sky for 24 hours. Svalbard is the place in Norway where the midnight sun occurs for the longest period. Here, the sun doesn't set between Mid of April  April to  August.

The earth is rotating at a tilted axis relative to the sun, and during the summer months, the North Pole is angled towards our star. That’s why, for several weeks, the sun never sets above the Arctic Circle.

While one of Earth’s Poles is angled towards the Sun, this means the opposite Pole is facing away. So, if one of the Poles is enjoying extended daylight the other Pole is in darkness. So, when the Arctic has the Midnight Sun, the Antarctic has more darkness.

Generally, the Arctic Circle and Antarctic Circle are based on where the Midnight Sun occurs but because of refraction, the light extends a bit beyond this line. Refractions are when light beams bounce off molecules like moisture and change their trajectory. Thus, the Sun can be seen when it is below the horizon but seem to be in the sky still.

This is a natural phenomenon you can see in person.

A quarter of Finland's territory lies north of the Arctic Circle, and at the country's northernmost point the sun does not set at all for 60 days during summer. In Svalbard, Norway, the northernmost inhabited region of Europe, there is no sunset from approximately 19 April to 23 August. The extreme sites are the poles, where the sun can be continuously visible for half the year. The North Pole has midnight sun for 6 months from late March to late September.

Sometimes we can think of our planet’s natural phenomena as being too incredible to see in person, but it is more accessible than you can imagine. If seeing the Midnight Sun is on your bucket list, you should plan your midnight sun adventure and think of Northern Norway explore the Land of the Midnight Sun and see the best of the Arctic summer in a different light!
